While I was with my first band in college, I owned a Digitech BP-8, and found that by using an infinite feedback delay, and assigning a Hold function to the foot controller, I could create a crude looped background for a song. With only two seconds or so of delay, and a difficult timing mechanism, it wasn't very sophisticated, but it caught my imagination. My pretentious solo project is an attempt to play pretty traditional rock music, with a little bit of pop and blues thrown in, within the limitations of few effects (DL-4, a distortion/preamp, and an envelope) and a single loop. I play covers and originals. I have three goals for my music. First, it teaches me to be a better composer by working with a spare toolkit. Second, it stretches my abilities as a bassist. And third, it lets me play the way I want to, free from the tastes and expectations of other band members.
