RE: Sonic AD madness

Title: RE: Behringer
hmm. i think that he did some of the music as well as the orchestration. i don't know for sure. my guess is (and it is a guess) that hayes did the theme song - - and johnson did the arrangement (which is what he *ripped* off* for the commercial - - he was a co-defendent in the suit) - - hayes probably did other songs and johnson did the arrangements and additional music cues, etc. again, my guess. i suppose one could look at a soundtrack album or the film credits to see who got *credited* (which ain't always the same thing as writing/doing) with the music.

Interesting- was the orchestrator of the film also the composer?  Cliff

begs the question, obvious to whom. i recognized it right away.

that being said, i know there was a lawsuit brought by isaac hayes against miller brewing co forappropriating the shaft theme for an ad which starred richard roundtree. even though the ad was in the *style* of the movie theme, it was different. the jury couldn't tell the difference between the original wah wah part and the wah wah part on the ad (ad music was composed by the orchestrator of the movie, jj johnson) and awarded to hayes.

i wonder if a jury could tell that it's the same hendrix part on the current tv ad.

If it is obvious and they are not paying, they will be soon- I would be very surprised otherwise-  ever since Vanilla Ice vs. Bowie I think there is less tolerance-

If I were a guitar player and I sounded like Jimi Hendrix,
that's perfect acceptable.  BUT, if I try to release a
recording of "Purple Haze", I need to get a license from
Hendrix' estate.

** okay. this brings up an interesting thing. there's a car ad (?) out right now that uses an acoustic guitar rendition of the guitar part of a hendrix tune (i think the tune is "come on" from electric ladyland). think the hendrix estate is getting any dough for that?

sorry this is late was away yesterday due to car stuff . . .
