that being said, i know there was a lawsuit
brought by isaac hayes against miller brewing co forappropriating the
shaft theme for an ad which starred richard roundtree. even though the ad
was in the *style* of the movie theme, it was different. the jury couldn't
tell the difference between the original wah wah part and the wah wah part
on the ad (ad music was composed by the orchestrator of the movie, jj
johnson) and awarded to hayes.
i wonder if a jury could tell that it's the same
hendrix part on the current tv ad.

If it is obvious and they are not paying, they will be
soon- I would be very surprised otherwise- ever since Vanilla Ice
vs. Bowie I think there is less tolerance-

** okay. this brings up an interesting thing. there's
a car ad (?) out right now that uses an acoustic guitar rendition of
the guitar part of a hendrix tune (i think the tune is "come on" from
electric ladyland). think the hendrix estate is getting any dough for
that?
