Warning! Abrasive, provocative text
follows!
If there is any Irish in me it's because of cross-channel
raids, and thereby undocumentable except through DNA studies. In any event
I reject the notion of bureaucratically-assigned "Saints", much less the notion
of celebrating ANY ethnic group over others, least of all via the only
singularly-sanctioned ethnic holiday forced upon us just about everywhere there
are English-speaking folks. I'd propose the renaming of "Saint Patrick's"
Day to Human Day, or Individuals' Day (a delightful near-conflict in terms
there), or how about "Green Shirt Day"? I'd say "Tree Day" but we've
already all but FORGOTTEN Arbor Day, so that'd be a waste of time, wouldn't
it?
So I'll just relax tonight and take part in a little "smokin'
of the green", and listening to "Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered
Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict". Aye!
