Well, as usual, all roads lead back to MAX/MSP. :) It must be the Rome of the effect processing world. Now, Jeff, if you could just get Cycling 74 to create a user friendly (graphically pleasing and easy to use) interface, they will have me sold. They don't have to provide maximum programming capability to every user. Some of us just like to buy software and have it work right out of the box. For instance, why don't they create a nice VST host that is ready to go, but beats the pants off of others, like Chainer, EnergyXT, Plogue, etc in terms of flexibility and power? They could do this...it would capture a market that they don't have now...sort of like Linux...I know a lot of Linux users who just say, why don't you go to Linux, and all our MS OS problems will go away...yeah right....I don't quite see the normal consumer user using Linux with Red Hat yet. Programming may be fun and gratifying for some folks, but not others. I don't want to build my own VST host in MAX/MSP...I want them to do it for me, and make it look nice and easy to use. They could probably do a survey of the current VST hosts out there and come up with some great design ideas that improve upon them all. You remember our conversation about this, Jeff..... I have Jitter and plan to integrate it into my performance rig....what a beautiful piece of software. I plan to have the looping software I use trigger the processing of live video of the performance.....so the musical improvisation will have visual counterpoint.....I hit a button, move a fader, press a pedal, it affects both video and audio....but it will have to wait for my next more powerful laptop. best, jeff Jeff Kaiser http://www.JeffKaiser.com pfMENTUM.com • AngryVegan.com On Aug 20, 2006, at 10:22 AM, bruce tovsky wrote: > > On Aug 20, 2006, at 1:05 PM, Jeff Kaiser wrote: > >> have you boys heard of Jitter....? >> >> Integrates with Max/MSP...... > > listen to the man, he knows what he's talking about. ; >) > it would be fairly easy, once you had overcome the initial > shock of dealing with a fairly complex piece of software, > to create a live looper that could capture video to a buffer > and then allow you to process it in any way you can imagine. > jitter has a new set of tools that allows you to push some of > the video processing onto your built-in graphics card and also > do some wild 3-D manipulations. when radiohead was doing it's tour a > couple of years ago for > "hail to the thief" they used a jitter-based system to do live > video manipulations of the band, using computer-controlled > cameras on stage. it was beautifully integrated into the stage > set and worked really well with the music. which makes sense, > since they use max/msp in creating it. > www.cycling74.com > cheers > bruce > > bruce tovsky > www.skeletonhome.com > > "Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away." > Philip K.
