Actually, processing is all about artsy visual, animation, interactive
stuff.  The sonifying processing project brings music into processing
so you can mess with sound.  I haven't looked at it in depth, but it
claims to do whatever Max does.  So you can probably sync to Live with
midi or osc.  Add to that all the visual goodness that processing does
and its not a bad option at all (big user community, lots of
tutorials, free software, expandable).
