Re: Overview of iPad midi please?
Also, for me I don't want to add any other external MIDi devices (good riddance) with all the internal soft synth and tones I can get within my iOS audio apps. My whole reason for using an iPad is to eliminate clutter, interconnecting cables...to get rid of the laptop and totally simplify my setup and be portable and manage everything with the exception of my micro MIDI Controller... all of it contained in an iPad mini2 32 GB with backups to Dropbox.
I don't need an edp or a jamman or ableton live or a boss rc whatever they are now.
I can do live recording/looping and do all the work I need as a home studio for pop styles, live rock and pop, free jazz, noise, dance music and or experimental and electronic xyz.
And these days whereas bein mainly a guitar player, I am mostly interested in having a tuner and an overdrive switch and nothing else at my feet. I eschew fx and really keep it plug n play. For recording, I use Jamup Pro for any added guitar fx and only very subtly if ever at all at that matter.
But I was really looking for a way to make music anywhere and literally be able to put my music tool in my pocket and the iPad mini2 is exactly what I needed with no crashes or glitches using it running say mostly 6-8 tracks in Garageband. But I have had up to 32 tracks in GarageBand and have had no big probs....some lag in terms of cup drag where when I had 32 tracks in GarageBand it didn't glitch playback but it paused to get everything loaded into its buffer before it played back...I can live with that as again, I'm not gonna run that many tracks.
If you are looking for integrating existing MIDI gear into your rig, you can certainly do that too with a camera card sub adapter. But I was so excited to get rid of my external midi gear. And that is me and just me...whereas everyone has different uses and needs. and an iPad can help you in any capacity with some killer sounding apps....echopad and impaktor and loopy hd are ones i see being most beneficial to many folks on LD.
