Throwing another option into the mix, does anyone have experience with  
Mackie's Firewire interfaces?

I'm looking to replace my M-Audio FireWire Audiophile because it  
doesn't respond well to being turned off and on since it only wants to  
establish a connection with the computer at startup. This is  
presumably a driver issue, but it really stinks since I don't want to  
reboot my computer to connect to my audio interface.
